Many of you may not know what hypnotherapy is. I certainly didn’t. But my eyes are now wide open to this healing modality as I have seen it work wonders. That said, let me share a little bit more about what it is and what it can do for you.
As defined by the Mayo Clinic:
“Hypnosis is a changed state of awareness and increased relaxation that allows for improved focus and concentration. It also is called hypnotherapy. Hypnosis usually is done with the guidance of a health care provider using verbal repetition and mental images. During hypnosis, most people feel calm and relaxed. Hypnosis typically makes people more open to suggestions about behavior changes.”
Let’s dive a little deeper into the details of that. Before hypnosis, the client and hypnotherapist go through an intake at which time, the client expresses what issue they are looking to work on. The hypnotherapist then guides the client into a trance-like mental state through the use of relaxation scripts and other meditative techniques. Once in this state, the client becomes calmer and more open-minded, experiencing increased concentration and suggestibility.
The hypnotherapist will then guide the client to tap into their subconscious mind to find entrenched thoughts, patterns, and beliefs. Through conversation, repetition, reframing, and audio recordings, the therapist helps the client create new and more beneficial emotional and thought patterns that will allow them to make desired changes to address the targeted issue.
Hypnotherapy is a complementary therapy that can help manage a wide range of conditions, including:
- Stress / Anxiety / Depression
- Medical / Dental / Health Care anxiety
- Smoking Cessation and Weight Loss
- Panic Attacks and Phobias
- Insomnia and Pain Management

Although some changes can be achieved in one session, it often takes several sessions to work through blocks. For some, this modality won’t work at all. For others, it can be life-changing. There is a lid for every pot, as the saying goes. Some people don’t like massage, but love acupuncture. Others prefer traditional therapy. The only way you’re going to know what’s right for you is to try it.
